Full buck horn sights are the most useless sight ever invented in my opinion. They are about style alone and don't do anything particularly well for sighting that cannot be done better with a partridge front and wide, shallow, open or aperture rear sight. P.Jan 4, 2022. #10. Hi ACFlowers91, I recommend Chambers over TVM kits. I am familiar with both and dislike the architecture of almost all TWM offerings. The web of wood separating the barrel from the ramrod channel is too thick creating a clunky appearance usually with the ramrod hanging below the muzzle cap. Then forge you out a simple strap staple from a coat hanger or 1/8th inch wire. Pre-drill a couple of undersized holes and tap the staple in. Won't effect the value of this horn one bit! Use a little gun bluing or browning to take the new made off of your staple. Rick.

Concrete nails are easily found at your local hardware store. Heat to a bright red color and allow to cool slowly (softens the hardened concrete nail), shape with a hammer and/or files, heat to a bright cherry red and quench in oil or water, temper in your (toaster) oven at 375-400F for an hour and do a final sharpening.

Stack all that over FFFG black powder. Start your charges around 45-50 grains of powder. Increase the charge 5 grains at a time until you find what the rifle likes. Consider getting a range rod for loading, use the short starter you have shown in the photo.

Then make a cutter along the design of a couple of saw teeth that fit the groove. This can cut the groove deeper and is advanced to the next groove. Then a paper shim is placed under the cutter and the process is repeated till the grooves are deepened to your goal. A slow and labor intensive job but rather simple. The subject got on Uberti vs Pietta. He said that Uberti upgraded the factory to modern C&C machining and other "upgrades" to offset labor costs. Once that was complete they retired or laid off most of the skilled labor. While Uberti was making the upgrades, Pietta watched as they were considering similar factory upgrades.Jan 2, 2022. #5. 32 Cal. When I discovered a 72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle being offered for sale for only $675, I couldn't believe no one jumped on it before me. Well, I jumped because $675 is a super bargain. These rifles usually sell for $1200 - $1600.

The rifle I am using for inspiration is #81 shown in RCA vol 1. It is maple stocked but the patch box and carving are very similar to the mahogany stocked rifles. Isaac Haines was arguably the best carver of all the great long rifle makers. i have a Green Mountain .40 caliber drop in barrel for a TC Hawken or Renagade 1 inch frame. barrel is MINT i do not have a bore light but can look with flashlight and see it is very crisp and clean. length is 33 inches and fits both Hawken and Renegade frame. asking $350 shipped will include new syn ram rod. always up for a good trade.I did get a chance to physically hold a Pedersoli Blue Ridge in a 50 caliber, flintlock, this past Saturday. It was a very used one, at a local gun shop and priced within $70 of a new one. My second choice would be a Lyman Great Plains rifle, in a 50 caliber, percussion....but I'd prefer the long rifle.Dec 28, 2023. #9. Your very best option is rifle shop and someone who knows how to assemble it. Perdisoli is great but less then correct. A loyalist arms bess from India will spark as well as my custum lock, at least mine does. They offer more models and are as close to original as Perdisoli. The wood is not walnut.

A good load for mine is 25-30 grains of FFG. takes the heads from small game out to 30 yards, 47 grains is a great all around woods carry-target load but 65 grs is better when deer are in season. Thanks, Spence. :hatsoff: That is exactly the table that I was looking for. 32 Cal. A twist rate of 1 in 48 is considered a general compromise, supposedly capable of accurately throwing either a patched roundball or a conical projectile. Doesn't matter if the caliber is .32 or .62. However, like most "generalists", this twist rate probably is not the best for either roundball or conical.33,410. Reaction score. 8,508. Location.
