Technically, you are not decreasing caliber, as both 9mm and .380 use the same diameter bullet. You are decreasing overall cartridge length, which equates to less velocity at the muzzle and less energy, as well as less recoil. A lot of people prefer the .380 due to ease of use racking the slide over a 9mm, as the springs are lighter.Obviously this caused Sig to change the design of the pistol and tweak a few minor issues. If the P365 is too small for your hands, then I would easily recommend the XL. The XL is a belt carry gun while the P365 has a bit more versatility with concealment due to its size. I've owned both at the same time and ended up getting rid of the XL. In my opinion, the P365 trigger is smooth enough. Any gains achieved by polishing will not likely show up on your target 7-15 yards away. Where and how consistently the bullet hits should be the goal, not the feel of the trigger. Edit: and I do get the fix it til it’s broke and it’s fun to modify stuff thing.

On a practical level (capacity) I prefer the P365; on every other level (aesthetics, all-metal, grips, overall quality feel) I prefer the P938. The Crimson Trace on the P365 is flat ugly.The following week I shot about 350 rounds of 115, 124 and 147 grain bullets and had a higher frequency of light primer strike and failure of the bullet to fire with the 124 grain NATO bullets compared to the 115 and 147 grain bullets.
